Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid have reportedly made a big bid for highly rated Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell as they target a new left-back signing this summer.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Atletico Madrid have made a stunning £71m bid for the player.

It was also revealed that they face serious opposition from Premier League champions Manchester City for the aforementioned Chilwell.

Arsenal were previously linked with the England international but the Gunners won’t be able to afford a deal for him especially when there’s no Champions League football after their Europa League final debacle.

The Gunners won’t play Champions League football next season after they were beaten 4-1 by London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Atletico Madrid will play Champions League football next season and they have already started improving their squad ahead of the new season which does not start until August.

The Rojiblancos will definitely lose the services of both left-backs Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luis this season meaning that a new left-back signing is needed.

Lucas Hernandez is a World Cup winner with the French national team and he’s expected to join German champions Bayern Munich in a club-record transfer.

On his own part, Filipe Luis will leave the club at the end of his Atletico Madrid contract this summer.
