Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has said that the Gunners got one over their rivals with the deadline day signing of Thomas Partey from Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
Paul Merson is surprised that the Gunners signed the Ghanaian international ahead of clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City.
The ex-Premier League footballer said this in his column in the Daily Star.

Paul Merson also praised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for the job he has done at the club in a short space of time and that the Gunners are moving in the right direction under his watch.
According to him, the same can’t be said for Manchester United who struggled to sign players during the recently concluded transfer market.
Arsenal signed Thomas Partey on the final day of that transfer window after paying his release clause.
The Gunners had earlier been told multiple times that only the payment of the release clause will secure their top target Thomas Partey for them.
Arsenal had to pay his €50m (£45m) release clause to sign the player widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in European football.
