Premier League club Manchester United have been given a big boost in their pursuit of highly rated French defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Red Devils are one of the many clubs interested in the RB Leipzig centre back.
It was earlier revealed this summer that the player has a £53m release clause in his RB Leipzig contract which was renewed at the end of last season. The release clause will not be activated until next summer as stipulated in the new contract signed by the 21-year-old defender.
Croatian newspaper Sportske revealed that RB Leipzig have secured the signing of Josip Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia and the player is seen as a potential centre back replacement for Dayot Upamecano.

Premier League newcomers Leeds United were beaten to the signing of Josip Gvardiol by RB Leipzig.
The Daily Star revealed that Manchester United could still sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig in this transfer window as the Red Devils prioritise the signing of a centre back partner for Harry Maguire at the centre of their defence.
Manchester United will need to negotiate a fee with RB Leipzig for Dayot Upamecano if they want to sign him this summer rather than wait till next summer to activate his release clause.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also admirers of the Dayot Upamecano.
