Leeds United are eyeing a loan deal for Liverpool player Xerdan Shaqiri as the end of this transfer window draws closer.

The transfer window is expected to end in the next ten days.

The interest of Leeds United in Xerdan Shaqiri was reported by controversial Liverpool correspondent IndyKaila via his official Twitter account.

Leeds United secured promotion into the Premier League at the end of last season after winning the English Championship title. Marcelo Bielsa masterminded their return to the top flight for the first time in 16 years and the Argentine tactician is keen to strengthen his squad to withstand the test of time in the Premier League.

Bielsa wants to add the creativity of Swiss international Shaqiri to his midfield but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will let him leave on loan.

Shaqiri has been at Liverpool since joining from Stoke City but he has not been able to nail down a slot in the first XI.

Competition for places has gotten harder this season with the arrival of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota from Bayern Munich and Wolves respectively.

He has made just one appearance for Liverpool this season and that was in the Carabao Cup third round tie at Lincoln City which the Reds won 7-2. Shaqiri scored the opening goal of that game.
