Arsenal have been told by Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas that they have the opportunity to sign their top target Houssem Aouar but that will not happen until they are willing to meet his £44 million valuation.

The North London outfit are confirmed to have indicated an interest in the French Ligue 1 star but they are yet to agree on a deal as negotiations are still ongoing. Manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that the club is still in the market to add more players to the team.

When asked if Houssem Aouar would join the north London side, Jean-Michel Aulas reportedly said No because the Premier League side had not submitted an offer yet.

Now it is claimed that talks have been opened between the two clubs over a deal as the 22-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Arsenal.

Arsenal will have to wait till the last minutes to stand the chance of having their £36m bid to be accepted.

Houssem Aouar is an important part of the Lyon team that reached the Champions League semi-finals by defeating Italian Serie A champions Juventus in the last-16 and Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Should he join Arsenal, he will be an automatic replacement to Mesut Ozil who is still around but has been frozen out of the team.
