Chelsea will have to rival three other European heavyweights in the hunt to sign highly rated Hellas Verona centre back Marash Kumbulla.

According to Italian media portal L’Arena, Chelsea must see off Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan and Lazio to sign the 20-year-old Albanian international before next month.

The transfer market will end on the 5th of October.

Marash Kumbulla was born in Italy but he has already been capped by Albania. He’s attracting a lot of interest from far and near after a stellar campaign for Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A.

He made 25 appearances in the league as the centre back cemented his place in the Hellas Verona team.

In total, Marash Kumbulla scored one goal in 26 games in all competitions.

Chelsea will face a very big threat for Kumbulla with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bolster his options at centre back especially after the exit of Jan Vertoghen.

Belgian international Vertoghen has joined Portuguese giants Benfica on a free transfer this summer at the end of his deal at Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho saw his team suffer an opening weekend defeat in the Premier League this season following the 1-0 loss to Everton. His defence suffered against the Toffees and Mourinho will be looking for improvement in the form of new defensive signings.
