Merseyside giants Everton have been tipped to wrap up a loan deal for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori as former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips believes that it would be a smart signing for the Toffees.

Sky Sports had earlier revealed that the 22-year-old centre back is closing in on a loan transfer to Everton after he was pushed down the centre back pecking order at Stamford Bridge this summer courtesy the new signings at his club.

Kevin Phillips told Football Insider Dylan Childs that Fikayo Tomori has played with better players at Chelsea and that the England international would be a very good signing for the Toffees as a result.

Fikayo Tomori is close to an exit at Chelsea after the club strengthened their centre back position with the signings of free transfers Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.

Chelsea signed Brazilian star Thiago Silva after his contract with French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) expired at the end of last season. Malang Sarr also joined at the end of his contract at French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

Fikayo Tomori would be the fifth summer signing at Everton if his loan deal is confirmed officially.

He made 22 appearances for Chelsea last season.
