Rennes and Chelsea have been in talks in the past days over the signing of Edouard Mendy.
The Rennes goalkeeper emerged as the first choice target for the Blues this summer and they have moved to wrap up a deal for him.
Chelsea have agreed a transfer fee with Rennes for him, while the player had previously agreed personal terms with the club. The shot stopper is now expected to travel to London for his medicals.
Edouard Mendy will be the eighth signing of the summer for Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team who are keen to mount a Premier League title challenge this season.
The Blues have signed seven players until now as they try to battle Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
