Liverpool are close to signing a young Brazilian goalkeeper according to reports in the South American nation of Brazil.

Fluminense shot stopper Marcelo Pitaluga will reportedly travel to England to complete a transfer to Liverpool before the end of this transfer window.

According to Globo Esporte, Liverpool made an offer of €1m plus €1m in add-ons for the 17-year-old. The offer was accepted by his Brazilian Serie A club.

The Reds had earlier made a smaller offer for the goalkeeper but it was turned down by Fluminense.

In addition to the offer accepted above, Fluminense have also inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal.

The player is expected to sign a three-year deal with the option of an extra two years.

Liverpool have not been active in the transfer market this summer like what’s obtainable with the other big clubs in the Premier League and the imminent signing of Pitaluga is not expected to get the Reds fans excited.

The Reds have signed just one player this summer for the first team and that’s Greek left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Tsimikas has joined Liverpool from Olympiacos this summer to provide competition for first choice left-back Andy Robertson.

Marcelo Pitaluga has a German passport and he doesn’t need to turn 18 before making the move from Fluminense to Liverpool.

English Premier League outfit Chelsea will be left disappointed with Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga despite the huge investment on him as he has lost his place in the team.

Since his move for Spanish la Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been a flop at the Stamford Bridge and cost the team several points with his blunders. The Blues team were left with no choice but to replace him.

More to the pain of investing a huge amount to sign him from Spain, the West London outfit pay a weekly wage of £150,000 to Kepa Arrizabalaga which is a burden to the club and they are desperate to be relieved.

The Sun reports that the West London outfit are considering sending him out on loan to his homeland to be with Sevilla for the rest of the season under special agreements.

Knowing that Kepa Arrizabalaga had very impressive performances when he was in Spain, the move could help him rediscover his form with the possibility of a return in the future.

Meanwhile, the weekly wage of the Spanish goalkeeper could be the challenge in the deal but the Blues will be willing o pay part of the £150,000 to be able to take him off their books.

A number of teams would have been interested in taking Kepa Arrizabalaga permanently, but they will not be able to pay about £78 million that brought him to Chelsea and the Blues are not willing to suffer more loss by accepting far less for him.

Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy was signed up by the Blues in the summer transfer window from Rennes and has proven to be the solution for Frank Lampard. He has helped stabilize the team by avoiding unnecessary gaols. Under his safe hands, the Blues team have now recorded three successive clean sheets.

EPL: Frank Lampard left confused over selection of attacking role

Frank Lampard

Now that Chelsea seem to have returned to form with a 4-0 win in their Champions League game, attention will be given to the team as they resume the Premier League action against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

The reason is that the West London outfit have not been impressive in the Premier League and will look to make amends by delivering a win despite playing away from home against a wounded Burnley team that is yet to win any game this season.

The Blues team have just won two games from their last six Premier League fixtures and that must improve if they must achieve their aim of winning a title and finishing in any of the top four positions this season.

However, the Blues boss Frank Lampard has confessed to being confused about his attacking selections as he battles to fit all his attacking players into the game against Burnley.

Expressing delight that his attacking players are now becoming fit and getting to their best, after the Champions League, Frank Lampard boasts of having options in the attack because of the heavy schedule of games but fitting them in is the problem.

“We’re also searching for relationships because some of the newer players are learning about each other and learning how we want to play. So I’ve got no problem with the options at the minute, and the players have to understand that when you play every three days consistent up to Christmas and beyond, there will be some rotations at times and we’ll need everybody” he added

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard can decide to play all four – Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner in the game to be able to score goals as it happened in the Champions League.

With about £200 million already spent on recruitment, Frank Lampard will be left with no choice than to win a trophy or secure Champions League qualification.

Nicolas Pepe

Ivory Coast star Nicolas Pepe was impressive in Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Dundalk on Thursday night but he has been warned by former player Martin Keown that he risks getting the same treatment as Mesut Ozil if he does not get better with his consistency.

Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal squad for all major competitions this season and that means he would be forced to leave with the January transfer window being considered to save his career.

The attitude and performance of the former Real Madrid playmaker are cited as the reason why manager Mikel Arteta continued to snub him from games before deciding to leave him out of the team after he refused to improve.

Martin Keown, reacting to Nicolas Pepe’s goal and performance in the Europa League game said “These are the moments from Pepe that we were expecting when he first arrived.”

He lamented that the fans are yet to see enough of the former Lille player, adding that his best must be seen more often to be able to seal his place in the team.

Martin Keown noted that Mikel Arteta might have claimed to fail Mesut Ozil but such an excuse cannot be given of the Ivory Coast star because he has been given the opportunity but he has to get the best for himself.

“We’ve all talked about Ozil not being around and the manager saying he failed the player. What about Pepe now? We’re moving onto the next generation. How do you get the best from him, and is he getting the best for himself?”

However, manager Mikel Arteta has promised to help Nicolas Pepe and guide him towards consistency of performance.

The Spanish boss is encouraged by the fact that Nicolas Pepe is willing and he has hinted on helping him to be at his best every week.

The Ivory Coast international scored five league goals in his first season in England, against the 22 he scored in his final season with Lille.
