Fulham have announced the loan signing of Alphonse Areola from French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) for this season.
Areola, 27, was strongly linked with a transfer to Premier League giants Arsenal before the Fulham move was officially announced. He was linked with the Gunners on loan as a possible replacement for Arsenal shot stopper Emiliano Martinez who has been attracting interest from Aston Villa.
Chelsea were also interested in the goalkeeper who was part of the World Cup winning squad for France during the 2018 tournament in Russia.

The Blues want a new shot stopper and it seems like they have narrowed their search to Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with club president Nicholas Holveck confirming that talks have begun between both teams.
Alphonse Areola came through the PSG Academy before making his first outing for the club during the 2012/13 season. He was sent on loan to clubs like Lens and Bastia in his native France as well as Spanish La Liga side Villarreal.
He was the first choice shot stopper at PSG for two seasons until the arrival of Costa Rican international goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Real Madrid at the start of last season with him moving in the other direction.
Areola made just nine appearances for Real Madrid last season.
