North London outfit Arsenal are the latest to join the race to sign Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes in this summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in Europe, the reason why several Premier League clubs are in the chase of his signature with Man United and Liverpool motioned as clubs that are keen to land him.

A report by Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims that outside the competition from the reports the Premier League side in the player, the North London club will have to beat competition from the Italian Serie A outfit AC Milan as they are already preparing to launch a bid.

It is understood that AC Milan are willing to cash out £13.5 million for the Portuguese starlet which could beat off interest from Arsenal and other Premier League clubs.

Moreso, Sporting Lisbon are reportedly unwilling to take the proposed £13.5 million by AC Milan and that could hold Mikel Arteta back as the North London club might not be able to meet his demand.

Nuno Mendes’ contract with Sporting Lisbon will not end until 2025, the reason why he will not be allowed to leave for a cheap price as they are not desperate to part ways with him.

arsene wenger

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he almost hurt the club in 2007 by dumping the job as he was unhappy with one of the decisions made at that time.

The legendary Frech manager revealed that he almost dumped the North London outfit in 2007 when his close pal, David Dein was sacked by the club because he felt torn and it was almost unbearable for him.

He revealed that he held a similar discussion with David Dein but he was told to stay at the club as they were very close and were loyal to each other.

Explaining that the decision of the club to sack David Dein was a result of the Emirates Stadium that was being built but it was a difficult reality to bear with.

Arsene Wenger insists that his leaving Arsenal would have hurt the club badly because he was highly needed at that time to help the team as he was also attracting interests from Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

However, the legendary French boss retired at the Emirates Stadium in 2018 to be the most successful manager in the Gunners history after a 20-year reign, winning the Premier League and the FA Cup titles.

Jorginho

It has been revealed that the English Premier League outfit Arsenal were at Chelsea to negotiate with Italian midfielder Jorginho some weeks ago during the summer transfer window.

The North London outfit were in need of a midfielder and were finding it difficult to negotiate a deal with their top target, Houssem Aouar as the French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon were keen on a fee they could not pay.

The former Napoli star, Jorginho was a target for the Gunners and he has hinted that he held negotiation with the club but he failed to agree on a move as he was more interested in staying with the Blues team.

He stated that every player is opened to negotiation, as he hinted there were talks over a move but a decision was made to that he remain at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old was linked away from Chelsea during the summer transfer window as he was obviously unsettled at the club but that is past now as he declared that he is now happy to stay.

Thomas Partey

After securing a 2-1 win over Rapid Wien in the Europa League on Thursday last week, Arsenal will retune for a Premier League challenge against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday night.

The North London outfit were helped by goals from David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to come from behind to steal a win away from home.

Now that the Mikel Arteta team is back, the 3-4-3 formation is expected to be continued with Bernd Leno behind the sticks.

However, Hector Bellerin is expected to retune to the team after his position was handled by Cedric Soares in the Europa League game with Bukayo Saka also at the left-wing.

The presence of Gabriel Magalhaes is not negotiable in the team and he could pair with David Luiz and Kieran Tierney at the back.

At the midfield, Thomas Partey is expected to have his first start in the Premier League after Mikel Arteta claimed that he is ready and we could see him pair with Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka.

Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will also lead the attack to give Mikel Arteta a formidable team against the Foxes.
