Manchester United are expected to lose the services of long-serving defender Chris Smalling as he closes in on a move to Italian capital club AS Roma.

Chris Smalling has agreed personal terms with AS Roma according to popular transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The transfer is expected to go ahead this week though AS Roma and Manchester United are yet to agree a fee on the player who spent last season on loan with the capital club.

Manchester United want £18m for the player and the Italians are still £5m off the transfer fee required for Chris Smalling.

In recent days, AS Roma have been boosted with funds following the transfer of Czech Republic international Patrick Schick.

AS Roma are £24m richer after Patrick Schick left the club to join Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga. The Patrick Schick money could prove to be very useful in the signing of Chris Smalling.

The England international has already agreed a one-year deal with the Italian Serie A club despite the threat from rivals Inter Milan.

The Nerazzuri were also keen on signing Chris Smalling who impressed a lot of people while he was on loan with AS Roma.

AS Roma showed more drive than Inter Milan and they are on course to get their man.

Italian giants AS Roma have made a bid to sign defender Chris Smalling from Manchester United this summer.

According to the publication via Goal, the Italians have made a €12m offer to sign the player permanently after his successful loan spell at the club last season.

Chris Smalling has been a Manchester United for a decade since his £10m transfer from Fulham in 2010.

He was surplus to requirements at the start of last season on the back of the £80m signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City and this prompted his loan move to Italy.

Arsenal’s interest in Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara has been confirmed by the player’s agent Daniele Piraino, according to Tutto Mercarto Web.

The North London club are keen on a new midfielder and have identified the AS Roma man as a better alternative to their major target, Thomas Partey this summer window.

The Gunners are yet to agree on a fee with Spanish La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid over a deal for the Ghanaian international as the release clause of £50 million is still being negotiated.

However, Amadou Diawara is being reported as an alternative and his agent has confirmed the report of the interest from Arsenal but made it clear that the player is focused on his career with AS Roma.

According to the agent, Amadou Diawara is in a top club and he is happy there but he is happy to be linked with clubs like Arsenal.

There is no doubt that he will be heading to the Emirates Stadium if the right offer is tabled to the Italian Serie A outfit as they are also keen to cash in from his sale.

It is expected that a number of new faces are seen at the Emirates Stadium before the end of the summer transfer window.

Thomas Partey

With Arsenal finding it difficult to convince Atletico Madrid for the release of Thomas Partey this summer window, they have decided to shift attention to other alternatives so as to conclude a deal before the end of the summer window.

Manager Mikel Arteta has identified the Ghanaian international as his major target for the midfield role to add depth to his squad but the Spanish La Liga club are insisting on a fee of $45 million while the player seems not to have made up his mind.

The Sun reports that the North London outfit are now shifting attention to AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara as an alternative and will open talks with his camp in the coming days.

Amadou Diawara has impressed in Serie A with AS Roma and has proven to have similar qualities and strengths as the Atletico Madrid player.

The advantage in the deal for Amadou Diawara is the fact that he will be available for a cheaper fee of £27 million and the Serie A outfit are desperate to part ways with the player to cash in for the funding of other deals.

Mikel Arteta expects to sign Amadou Diawara if it is confirmed the club will not be getting Thomas Partey.

Chris Smalling

Man United defender Chris Smalling spent the last one year at Stadio Olimpico with Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma on a loan deal and it is expected to have expired as the season has come to an end.

During his spell with AS Roma, he impressed greatly and is already being considered for a permanent deal with talks between both teams already ongoing.

It was initially reported that the Red Devils will not listen to any offers for his signature but that seems to have been settled as they are already in fresh talks which is already hitting the rock.

Sky Sports Italia reports that the Red Devils are requesting for £25 million for the signature of the 30-year-old and that is being rejected by the Serie A club. The report, therefore, claims that talks have collapsed.

Man United are aware of the interest in Chris Smalling from other Serie A outfits, the reason why they have valued him high for the highest bidder.

Inter Milan and Juventus are reported to have watched the 30-year-old player very closely and are willing to take the risk of signing him. This leaves the Red Devils with the option of cashing in on Chris Smalling to fund other deals.

Transfer Ratings: Alexis Sanchez To AS Roma

Alexis Sanchez

The interest of AS Roma in Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez has dominated the Italian newspapers in the last two days. The capital club is keen to sign the attacker for the new season despite his disappointing spell in Italy this season.

According to various media outlets in Italy, AS Roma want to take the Chilean international on loan for next season. Alexis Sanchez has been on loan at Inter Milan this season and he has hardly made any positive impact on the Nerazzuri partly due to being out of action got several months because of an ankle injury.

Manchester United had to farm Alexis Sanchez out on loan to Italy at the start of this campaign after a disastrous 18 months at the club. He failed to reach the least expectation demanded of a player who’s the highest paid at Old Trafford with weekly wages said to be around £500,000.

Alexis Sanchez was one of the best players in the Premier League while he was at Arsenal but the Chilean forward has not been able to rediscover that form at the Theatre of Dreams following his swap transfer at the start of 2018. Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to Arsenal from Manchester United in a deal that saw Sanchez move in the other direction.

Manchester United saw off rivals Manchester City in the race for Alexis Sanchez and it is safe to say that they have not gotten their money’s worth on the player who scored just five goals in 18 months at Old Trafford.

A change of environment and league was expected to improve his form but that has not happened at Inter Milan who are not even considering making his loan move permanent. The interest of AS Roma is good news for Manchester United though the club will most likely need to continue to pay a certain percentage of his hefty wages for the loan move will happen.

Transfer Ratings for Alexis Sanchez to AS Roma: 7/10.
