Liverpool will no doubt, be in the summer transfer market despite claims by the club hierarchy that there is no need for new additions because of the strength of the team.

One area manager Jurgen Klopp will seek to add is the defensive department as he would be looking to complement the effort of Virgil Van Dijk ahead of the coming season.

A major target for the Reds team is Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as he seems to be available in this summer window.

Reports according to II Mattino claims the player’s agent Fali Ramadani will be travelling to Naples to formalize Liverpool’s offer for the Senegalese defender.

A former Liverpool player Alex Manninger has given his nod to the proposed deal, noting that Europe could be set to witness the strongest couple in the defence with Kalidou Koulibaly and Virgil Van Dijk if his former team succeeds.

He stressed that the 29-year-old will be a perfect partner to Van Dijk as soon as he settles down in the team.

However, time would be spent on the negotiation table with Napoli President reported to be seeking £100 million for the defender. It is claimed that Liverpool have valued him for £80 million and are set to beat it down to £70 million with the understanding that the coronavirus pandemic has affected the finance of a number of teams.

Liverpool have Matip and Joe Gomez who had good performances last season but due to knee and ankle injuries respectively, they have not been consistent to help Van Dijk.
