Frank Lampard

As the race for the top-four finish gets hotter, Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard hailed Man United after their Saturday win.

Both Chelsea and Man United recorded wins on Saturday which makes the race for a Champions League spot more interesting.

The Blues defeated Watford 3-0 while the Red Devils slammed Bournemouth 5-2 earlier on Saturday.

The wins now keep Man United 5th on the table with two points below Chelsea.

Frank Lampard has reacted to the wins by hailing the manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer team but noted that his team can still finish in the Champions League spot if they remain focus to win the remaining games left.

The Chelsea legend noted that every game left will come with a level of pressure but that will not be an issue if his team can maintain a level of focus and have the strong mentality to deliver on each game.

Frank Lampard will always give respect to Man United and other teams around them but that will not mean losing the Champions League spot to them in any way.

With five matches remaining, it is still unclear, the teams that will join Liverpool and Man City for a Champions League ticket while the same applies to the Europa League.

Lampard, Klopp disagree with the Premier League over the new season rules

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp have both aired the same opinion on the decision by the Premier League to split the 20 topflight teams.

The Blues boss argues that the Premier League have “dropped the ball” by not allowing teams to make up to five substitutions this season as a continuation of the post-coronavirus era.

It would be recalled that a temporal change was made to the substitution rule after the return of football from the coronavirus break which allowed clubs to make up to five changes from the traditional three.

Now that football is gradually returning to normal, there is a split among the clubs over whether to change the rule back to normal or continue with the change of five substitutions per game. This has spitted the 20 topflight teams. The argument is based on the hectic fixture schedule.

Voting was later conducted and it was agreed that the change will revert to three substitutions with manager Jurgen Klopp disagreeing with the outcome after voting for five.

Jurgen Klopp when asked before the vote, stated that he wants the substitution to continue with five for the new season, noting that it is not about favouring big clubs alone. He added that “We have 38 games in a four-week-shorter season that says it all”

He stressed that what is needed is to get through the season before football can return to normal with a balanced calendar. The German boss stated that the players will need the development more as it would have an effect on their performance level.

Jurgen Klopp is now being backed by the Blues boss Frank Lampard who stated that the ball was dropped when the Premier League decided against five substitutions.

According to him, the demand from every club on their players is huge and they have to be helped.

Rio Ferdinand

Former Man United player and pundit, Rio Ferdinand has stated that the only way the season can be described as successful for English Premier League club, Chelsea is when they win a trophy and finishing the season in the top four.

The west London outfit finished fourth last season to be able to secure a Champions League slot in Frank Lampard’s debut. They were also runners-up in the FA Cup. They will be expected to improve by a step with a trophy this season.

Over £200 million has been invested by the Blues team under manager Fran Lampard for the recruitment of new players like Timo Werner, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Hakim Ziyech and it is expected that the West London outfit compete this season.

Manager Frank Lampard is already under pressure t deliver knowing that a lot has been spent in the summer transfer market and much would be expected from the results at the Stamford Bridge.

Already, the West London outfit have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup after suffering a defeat to North London outfit Tottenham on penalties in the last-16. They now have the FA Cup, Premier League, and the Champions League to compete this season.

The former Man United defender told VT Sport that “Champions League football, finishing in the Champions League positions ad winning a cup’ will be the least expectation from the Blues team.

“I think that’ll be the demands of Frank himself. Frank’s a winner, he’s accustomed to winning at Chelsea, he knows what the owner are asking but also the fans there” he added

The legendary England international defender is confident that Frank Lampard has a good team that can achieve all that is required as long as they can get in the groove and in the rhythm.

EPL: How Chelsea almost lost defender to West Ham

English Premier League outfit Chelsea almost lost their star player, Emerson Palmieri to their London rivals West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

The Italian defender was not at his best last season and that almost led to his exit from the club. He was reported to seek a new challenge as he was linked with a number of clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan for a move.

Amongst all the teams that were on the line for Emerson Palmieri, West Ham United were the favourites ahead of the It lain teams but the move failed and he had to remain at Stamford Bridge.

However, Emerson Palmieri cannot boast of regular playing time under manager Frank Lampard this season with the arrival of Ben Chilwell. So far, he has had three appearances with two in the Carabao Cup.

It would be fair to say that a move for the Italian will not be out of place with the Italian clubs reported being keen on his signature and that keeps West Ham United out of the race.

Emerson Palmieri had made 58 appearances for the Blues team across all competitions, scoring a goal and five assists and that has earned him the second-choice ahead of Alonso in the team.

Frank Lampard has given the hint that he would need Emerson Palmieri at the club but it is not sure the player is patient enough to wait at the Stamford Bridge as an option and not a regular player.

A juicy offer from any of the big teams in Italy could lure Emerson Palmieri out of the Stamford Bridge as he already has an experience of the Serie A, having played for AS Roma and Palermo in the past.

Meanwhile, Emerson Palmieri could remain in Chelsea for the rest of the season before leaving in the summer transfer window.
