Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has done a very good job on his defence since his appointment at the end of last year but the remarkable improvement won’t deter him from stepping up the quality of his defenders via the signing of a world-class centre back at least.
The Gunners were one of the worst defensive teams in the top ten of the current Premier League season which was suspended indefinitely at the start of last month due to Coronavirus. Since Arteta returned to the club in a coaching capacity four years after the end of his playing career at Arsenal, the defence has been one of the best in the division.
Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have a lot of central defenders at their disposal but that didn’t stop the loan signing of Spanish defender Pablo Mari from Brazilian giants Flamengo in January. Pablo Mari has been very good in his two games for Arsenal before the season was suspended and he’s on course to earn a permanent deal at the Emirates Stadium plus it is almost certain that Arteta will sanction the exits of some centre backs this summer ahead of the new season.

For now, Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal defenders will need to continue their good defensive streak as the Gunners try to claim a spot in the Champions League next season. Ahead of the summer’s transfer window, French defender Dayot Upamecano is the top defensive target for Arteta and North London giants Arsenal.
The Gunners are not the only ones interested in the RB Leipzig centre back with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also said to be keen on the 21-year-old player. Arsenal have limited funds and that could be a big problem in their quest to beat the other clubs to the summer signing of Dayot Upamecano who has one year left on his present RB Leipzig contract.
Transfer Ratings for Dayot Upamecano to Arsenal: 4/10.
