Premier League club Manchester United have stepped up their interest in one of the best young defensive midfielders in world football.
Manchester United are interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey who is widely regarded as one of the most promising midfielders on the European football stage.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Manchester United have made contact with Thomas Partey whom they want to sign this summer.
Thomas Partey has a release clause of €50m (£43.6m) in his Atletico Madrid contract though senior club officials are trying to agree a new deal for him.
A new contract will see the release clause increase significantly.
Thomas Partey showed his quality during the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie with Merseyside giants Liverpool.

The Ghanaian international star produced a man-of-the-match performance as Atletico Madrid beat European champions Liverpool 1-0 at the new Wanda Metropolitano.
Saul Niguez scored the only goal of the game for Atletico Madrid as they were able to secure a lead ahead of the trip to England in the second leg later this month.
Thomas Partey has made 34 appearances in the colours of the Rojiblancos this season in all competitions namely the Spanish La Liga, the Champions League, the Spanish Copa Del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
He has scored three goals plus one assist from his defensive midfield role this term.
Manchester United could replace Nemanja Matic with Thomas Partey this summer with the Serbian international gradually coming to the end of his contract at Old Trafford.
Matic signed a three-year deal upon his transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea three years ago. His contract will expire this summer and he’s expected to leave the club on a free transfer.
Manchester United are not expected to offer him a new deal despite his form in recent weeks.
