Chelsea are in talks to sign Napoli attacker Dries Mertens in this January window according to Sky Sports.

The Blues are looking for attacking reinforcements especially with the doubts over the future of Olivier Giroud at the club.

French striker Giroud has agreed his salary package with Inter Milan but the Italians are having problems over his transfer fee.

Inter Milan have offered €5m plus add-ons for the 33-year-old player but Chelsea want more money before they can sanction a deal for him.

Giroud wants to leave Chelsea after making a handful of appearances in the first half of this season.

He is the third choice striker at Chelsea behind both Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.

Olivier Giroud has been at Chelsea for two years and he has six months to go on his present Blues’ contract.

His previous Chelsea contract ended last summer before senior club officials decided to give a one-year extension.

Apart from Inter Milan, fellow London side Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on a deal for Giroud as they try to sign a new striker to offset the loss of star player/striker Harry Kane to injury.

Napoli attacker Dries Mertens could be the man to replace Giroud at Chelsea if the West Londoners can pull off a deal for him in this January transfer market.
