West London giants Chelsea have been boosted with the news that Premier League rivals Manchester United have been rebuffed in their bid to sign Edinson Cavani from French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
Both Chelsea and Manchester United want to sign a new striker before the January window closes this week and Edinson Cavani is a person of interest for the two English clubs.
According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United had a big salary offer turned down by Cavani who sees Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid as his preferred team if he leaves PSG this month.

Manchester United were said to have offered him around €10m annual salary which was rejected by the Uruguayan international star.
The Red Devils are interested in Edinson Cavani as the man to replace topscorer Marcus Rashford after the Academy graduate was struck down by a serious back injury.
Chelsea had a loan offer for Cavani thrown out by the player and his entourage earlier this month.
Edinson Cavani favors a move to Atletico Madrid who are in desperate need of a striker after the injury to Diego Costa.
Atletico Madrid offered him a two-and-a-half-year deal but they are yet to agree on a fee with PSG for him having had the first offer of €10m turned down by the French giants.
