Bruno Fernandes

Sporting Lisbon player Bruno Fernandes might have ended his career with the Portuguese Super League outfit on a losing note after the former Champions were beaten by arch rivals Benfica.

Bruno Fernandes is edging closer to a move to Premier League giants Manchester United and he might have played his last game for Sporting Lisbon during the home clash with Benfica at home on Friday night.

The Portuguese midfielder was unable to do much to the outcome of the result which saw Sporting Lisbon lose 2-0 at home to Benfica courtesy two goals from second half substitute Rafa Silva who scored twice in the last ten minutes of the game to open a seven-point advantage at the top of the table.

Benfica are on course to retaining their league title for the second successive campaign as they now have seven more points than nearest challengers and rivals FC Porto.

Sporting Lisbon stay in fourth place with 29 points from 17 games, Benfica have 19 more points in first position on the Portuguese Super League table.

Bruno Fernandes has been chased by Manchester United for the better part of this ongoing winter transfer market.

The 25-year-old has been a goalscoring sensation for his team in the last two years.
