Chelsea would be wise to spend a lot of money on a reliable defender according to ESPN pundit Steve Nicole who’s a former Liverpool defender.

The Blues have been strongly touted as the possible destination for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk with reports claiming that the reigning Europa League winners have already contacted the Seagulls over a transfer for their skipper.

Steve Nicole discussed Chelsea and transfers on ESPN and he backed the club to make a move for Lewis Dunk if the Brighton captain is a reliable defender.

The 28-year-old was linked with a Leicester City transfer last summer as a replacement for Harry Maguire who had left the Foxes for Manchester United in an £80m deal which is a record for a defender in football history.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is targeting two quality players this month as confirmed by Ian McGarry, who is a co-presenter for Transfer Window Podcast.

Lampard wants a new striker and a new central defender for which Lewis Dunk is his priority.

It was revealed that Brighton have been contacted over a transfer but the Seagulls are unlikely to do a deal for one of their best players as they fight for survival in the Premier League.
