Reigning European and world champions Liverpool have held talks with the representatives of highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz according to the Daily Express.

It was revealed that the player’s representatives held talks with both Liverpool and Manchester United about a move to the Premier League.

Kai Havertz had a very good season for Bayer Leverkusen during the 2018/19 campaign as he played a key role in helping the German Bundesliga side return to the Champions League fold.

He had a lot of clubs on his trail but the player made the decision to stay and represent his boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League this season though they have been eliminated from the competition after a third-place finish in Group D behind Italian champions Juventus and Atletico Madrid.

Bayer Leverkusen have dropped into the Europa League.

Kai Havertz could be the direct replacement of Adam Lallana whose Liverpool contract will end this summer and recent reports claimed that any prospective club will have to pay at least £85m to sign the German international star who has played over 100 Bundesliga games in the colours of Bayer Leverkusen.

The young midfielder was previously linked with Arsenal as a long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil.
