Arsenal will have to act fast if they want to sign Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake ahead of London rivals Chelsea who are also in the running to sign the 24-year-old centre back.

The Telegraph revealed that both Arsenal and Chelsea have interest in Ake who is undoubtedly the best defender in  Bournemouth team that has struggled defensively without him in the squad.

The Dutchman has been out of action since last month and not expected back in the team until January ending.

Without him, Bournemouth have shipped 11 goals in six league games and this ratio is a far cry from the 21 goals conceded in the 15 games he played before his injury.

Premier League champions Manchester City were linked with him last summer but they were put off by the £75m asking price from Bournemouth.

Arsenal and other interested clubs can do a deal for around £45m according to the publication via Squawka.

Chelsea can sign him for less at £40m after they inserted a release clause into the transfer that took him from the club to Bournemouth in 2017.

He spent the last part of 2016 on loan with the Cherries from Chelsea before the deal was made permanent for £20m the following summer.
