Chelsea are desperate to sign a striker in the January transfer window so as to get help for leading goalscorer Tammy Abraham who has been in very good form since last summer when he returned to Stamford Bridge from a loan spell at Aston Villa.

Backup strikers Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are not highly rated by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard who wants another striker.

Aston Villa are Premier League newcomers and they have been touted as the next destination for Batshuayi, while Crystal Palace and West Ham United are interested in a January swoop for Giroud.

RB Leipzig player Timo Werner is a key target for Chelsea in the current transfer market but a transfer is unlikely until the summer at least and this could be blessing in disguise for Frank Lampard and the West London club since the German player will be cheaper by the time the summer comes around in few months time.

The more realistic option for a striker for Chelsea is CSKA Moscow star Fyodor Chalov who is available for £20m.

Timo Werner won’t be released by RB Leipzig with the club on top of the German Bundesliga log and the last 16 of the Champions League.
