Italian Serie A leaders Inter Milan are reportedly closing in on a transfer for ageing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud according to reports from France.

French World Cup winner Giroud has not been seeing regular match action at Chelsea and that has prompted transfer speculation of a move away from the club during the winter transfer window.

According to the publication from the stables of popular French news outlet L’Equipe, Inter Milan have agreed a deal for Olivier Giroud ahead of the January transfer window.

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte needs cover in attack for the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez and Giroud could be the man for the job.

Conte and Inter Milan have been overreliant on the double strike force of Lukaku and Martinez who have 18 goals between them in the league.

Belgian international leading goalscorer Romelu Lukaku has scored 10 goals in the Italian Serie A this season, while his Inter Milan counterpart Lautaro Martinez has two goals less.

Argentine international star Lautaro Martinez has scored eight goals in the league this season.

Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from London rivals Arsenal two years ago for a fee of £18m.

The Frenchman is the third choice striker behind Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham at Chelsea.
