FC Basel centre back Carlos Zambrano has revealed that he had an interest from reigning European champions Liverpool during an interview with Movistar.
The Peruvian international defender stated that Liverpool and Sevilla made offers for him while he was with German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt whom he made over 100 appearances for.
Carlos Zambrano also played for Schalke 04 in the top flight of German football.
The 30-year-old moved from Rubin Kazan FC of Russia from Ukrainian top flight side Dinamo Kyiv.
He joined the Ukrainians one year ago and went on to struggle at the club before being farmed out on loan to Swiss top flight side FC Basel.

Carlos Zambrano still desires a move to Liverpool but the Reds are a different proponent these days with the Reds now interested in another centre back in Sevilla defender Diego Carlos who has a release clause of £63m.
Brazilian star Diego Carlos joined Sevilla from French Ligue 1 side Nantes last summer.
Liverpool want Diego Carlos to partner Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of their defence.
The Reds have already made their first signing of the January transfer window following the capture of highly-rated Japanese international Takumi Minamino who they signed for just £7.25m.
