He impressed a great deal for the Cherries for six months before being recalled by then Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
His move to Bournemouth became permanent in the summer of 2017 after the Cherries paid the huge sum of £20m for him.
A release clause of £40m was inserted into his contract, while Chelsea had a buyback option thus giving them an edge over the other clubs that might be interested in the utility defender.
