Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has thrown his weight behind one of his players for the 2019 Ballon d’Or Award.
The award recipient will be named on Monday and Klopp believes that Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk deserves to win it.
When asked before the latest win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the league, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that Dutch international center-back Virgil Van Dijk was the best player and that he should win the Ballon d’Or Award.
Klopp said that Van Dijk merits the award as the best player this year, while main challenger Lionel Messi is the best player in the world.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or award five times, while Van Dijk is yet to taste it as he bids to become only the first defender to win the award since Fabio Cannavaro achieved the feat in 2006.
Virgil Van Dijk made a strong case for the award after he scored twice to give Liverpool a 2-0 halftime lead at home to Brighton on Saturday before Seagulls skipper Lewis Dunk pulled one back for the visitors.
Van Dijk and Liverpool held on to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 10 points but that has since been trimmed to eight points by Leicester City who beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday courtesy the late goal from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.
