Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to upgrade his midfield in January as there is an obvious need to add a defensive-minded defender to the team.

Fred and McTominay have been doing excellently well in recent weeks but their display against Bournemouth raised questions about their consistency level.

As a result, United are reportedly linked with a move for West Ham’s young midfielder Declan Rice who has been consistent in his performance for the Hammers since last season.

According to Goal, the England international has been added to Solskjaer’s list of most wanted players in January.

The same report also has it that his employers are ready to launch a big-money offer of £80m for his signature during the upcoming winter window.

Unfortunately, West Ham could kick against selling the youngster mid-way through the season as Manuel Pellegrini would love to have all of his players around till the end of the campaign.

In other United transfer news, the Red Devils are reportedly willing to listen to Roma’s permanent offer for Chris Smalling in the summer.

The Daily Mail claimed that the Old Trafford outfits are looking to receive £17m from suitors who are interested in the defender’s services and the Serie A side are obviously leading the race.
