Liverpool To Face Premier League Opposition In Carabao Cup Quarters

Eight-time champions Liverpool have been drawn with Premier League opposition in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals after the draw took place earlier on Thursday.

Liverpool have been drawn with Premier League newcomers Aston Villa in the last eight after the Reds saw off Arsenal via penalties in their last 16 tie on Wednesday night.

Premier League leaders Liverpool led 1-0 in the first half before Arsenal fought back three times to edge 3-1 ahead before the halftime interval.

Liverpool were handed a lifeline on the stroke of the halftime interval through a James Milner penalty which made it 3-2 to the visitors, Arsenal.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles established a two-goal lead for the Gunners at the start of the second half but Liverpool fought back with two goals to make it 4-4 courtesy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi.

Joe Willock scored the fifth goal for Arsenal before Origi equalized for Liverpool at the fulltime.

Liverpool won 5-4 on penalties after the two teams played out a thrilling 5-5 draw at fulltime.

The Reds will battle with Aston Villa for a place in the semifinals of the competition.

Liverpool are still in all the competitions they entered into this season.

The Reds are at the top of the Premier League at the moment.
