Former Premier League champions Chelsea continued their winning run after the slim victory over struggling Newcastle United in their league clash earlier on Saturday.
Chelsea had won the last four games in all competitions before the Newcastle United game and they made it five wins on the trot with a victory at home to the Magpies.
The West London giants beat Newcastle United 1-0 at home to continue their winning run in recent games.
The only goal of the game came in the second half courtesy Spanish international defender Marcos Alonso.
The Spaniard got the winning goal in the 75th minute off an assist from young winger Callum Hudson-Odoi who made his first start for Chelsea in the Premier League this term.

Callum Hudson-Odoi didn’t start the season with Chelsea due to a serious Achilles injury sustained by the player towards the end of last season.
He has been able to work his way back to full fitness after a lengthy layoff as a result of the Achilles problem.
Chelsea have now won games against Grimsby Town, Brighton and Hove Albion, Lille, Southampton and Newcastle United.
The win over Newcastle United moves Chelsea from fifth to fourth position on the league table.
