Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has revealed why he substituted goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois during the Champions League game at home to Belgian top flight side Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
Zidane subbed off Thibaut Courtois for Alphonse Areola in the Real Madrid goal at the start of the second half with the team surprisingly trailing 2-0 at home to their Belgian opposition.
The French football legend was quizzed about the substitution by reporters after the game.
According to him, former Chelsea shot stopper Courtois was in a bad way at the end of the first half and that the Belgian international star was unable to continue the game.

Thibaut Courtois has struggled to produce his best form for Real Madrid since joining the Los Merengues from Premier League club Chelsea in the summer of 2018.
He conceded two goals in the first half of the Club Brugge game to Nigerian striker Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis but his replacement Alphonse Areola was able to keep a clean sheet in the second half.
Real Madrid were able to battle back from two goals down to pick up their first point in Group A via a 2-2 draw.
Club skipper Sergio Aguero and Casemiro got the goals for the home team in the second half.
