Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been confirmed as the club’s skipper.

The Swiss international star has been the stand-in captain at Arsenal since former recipient Laurent Koscielny.

French defender Koscielny left Arsenal for Bordeaux FC of France in a controversial manner in the summer.

Granit Xhaka has not always been the popular choice amongst the Arsenal fans but that has not stopped Gunners boss Unai Emery from picking him.

The Swiss midfielder was made the permanent Arsenal captain after Unai Emery sought the opinion of the other players.

His first appearance as an Arsenal captain is expected to be the Premier League clash with Manchester United at the start of next week.

Xhaka is expected to lead Arsenal out for that game billed for Old Trafford on Monday night.

Arsenal are chasing a second successive league win ahead of the Manchester United game after returning to winning ways in the last Premier League game.

The Gunners had gone three games without a victory in the Premier League before the win over newly promoted side Aston Villa in the last league game.

Arsenal had to come from a goal down on two occasions to beat a spirited Aston Villa side 3-2 at home despite finishing the game with ten men.
