Europa League: Man Utd Quartet Ruled Out Of Astana Clash

Four Manchester United players have been ruled out of their upcoming Europa League clash with Astana FC of Kazakhstan.

Manchester United welcome Astana to Old Trafford in their first game back in the Europa League on Thursday night and four players have been confirmed as absentees for that game according to club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Manchester United manager confirmed the absentees for the Astana game during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that the quartet of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and Daniel James will all miss the Europa League opener with the Kazakhstani side.

Pogba, Martial and Shaw didn’t feature in the last league game at the weekend.

Summer signing Daniel James played in that league game at home to Leicester City as Manchester United returned to winning ways against the Foxes.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Manchester United beat Leicester City 1-0 to end a three-game winless run.

The England international was brought down in the Leicester City box by Foxes defender Caglar Soyuncu and that led to the only goal of the game in the eighth minute.

For the Astana game, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that young players will be given the opportunity to shine.

John McGinn

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has told club officials to sign highly-rated Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

Premier League legend Kevin Philips disclosed the position of Sir Alex Ferguson on John McGinn in a chat with Football Insider.

Kevin Philips played for clubs like Sunderland and Birmingham City with distinction while he was in the Premier League.

According to him, Sir Alex Ferguson has told club officials to sign the Aston Villa player who’s presently out injured.

John McGinn suffered ankle ligament damage at the end of last year and he’s not expected back in action until March meaning that a move to Manchester United this month is highly unlikely until the summer at least.

The Scottish international was linked with a £50m transfer to Manchester United last summer shortly after he helped his team to secure Premier League promotion via the Championship.

Manchester United have been short in midfield this season especially after two key midfielders suffered long-term injuries and that prompted the pursuit of Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils are finding it hard to agree a deal with Sporting Lisbon for him.

The 25-year-old is eager to leave Sporting Lisbon for Manchester United this month.

Edinson Cavani

Chelsea have contacted Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Edinson Cavani over a loan move before the end of the present winter transfer window.

This is according to the report from Goal which stated that the Blues want to sign him on loan from his French club though Spanish La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are favorites to sign him.

Chelsea are hoping to get more competition for central striker Tammy Abraham in that department as club manager Frank Lampard is not convinced by the present options of Michy Batshuayi and French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud.

Frenchman Giroud was thought to be closing on a transfer to Italian Serie A title challengers Inter Milan but that move appears to have stalled with the Italians now searching for alternatives.

Recent reports from Italy claimed that Inter Milan have opted to sign Fernando Llorente from Napoli after failing to lure Giroud from Chelsea.

For Edinson Cavani, PSG have already turned down a bid of €10m from Atletico Madrid for him.

Atletico Madrid have offered him a two-and-a-half-year deal until 2022 but the Spaniards still need to agree on a fee with PSG.

They are favorites ahead of Chelsea after manager Diego Simeone outlined his plans for him.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have concluded plans to triple the salary of sensational attacker Gabriel Martinelli to ward off the interest of the Spanish club Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are said to be weighing up a £50m move for the young Arsenal player who has a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2024.

Gabriel Martinelli has been a revelation for the Gunners this season since his £7m transfer from Ituano in his native Brazil.

The young attacker was playing lower league football in Brazil before Arsenal swoop in on him.

Martinelli is the second topscorer in the Arsenal team with 10 goals in all competitions.

The 10 goals have been in just 11 starts this season.

The 18-year-old has played 21 games for the Gunners since his transfer to North London last summer.

He earns £10,000 on a weekly basis and Arsenal are ready to triple his salary to £30,000 per week.

Gabriel Martinelli has taken his chance in the team after he replaced the suspended club skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the team.

Aubameyang was suspended after his red card during the London Derby clash with hosts Crystal Palace in the Premier League earlier this month.

Gabriel Martinelli has scored two goals in two league games since replacing Aubameyang.

Premier League table-toppers Liverpool have already contacted the agent of Nice wonderkid Pedro Brazao over a potential transfer this month.

This is according to the Daily Mirror via one of its publications as the Reds try to steal a march on their rivals in the bid to sign the 17-year-old winger.

European sides like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Sporting Lisbon are also interested in the player who has made one appearance for French club Nice this season.

Popular media outlet Foot Mercato had earlier revealed that the Reds and PSG have made contact with the player.

Pedro Brazao could be the third signing for Liverpool this month though that depends on the agreement with Nice since the player has a long-term contract at the club until 2023.

Liverpool are keen to move swiftly in the transfer window to sign Pedro Brazao ahead of the other clubs.

The Reds adopted a similar strategy for Japanese international Takumi Minamino whom they signed at the start of this month.

Liverpool were able to sign the Japanese attacker ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United before they added Joe Hardy to their ranks from Brentford.

Joe Hardy has joined the Liverpool u23 team upon his transfer.

Arsenal have been dealt a big transfer blow following the news that they are set to miss out on one of their midfield targets.

Atletico Paranaense star Bruno Guimares has been on the radar of Arsenal in the past months but it looks like the player will be heading to France and not North London after French Ligue 1 club Lyon agreed on a deal to sign him.

As reported by French media portal L’Equipe, Lyon have reached an agreement to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for €25m this month.

It was also revealed that Lyon will now discuss personal terms with the player after the French giants reached an agreement with his Brazilian Serie A club over his transfer.

Lyon were able to overcome the hurdle of his club retaining some of his economic rights to reach a transfer fee agreement.

Earlier reports had claimed that Arsenal would make a move for the Brazilian midfielder in the summer. This was before other clubs showed interest in signing him this month.

The interest of other European teams like Benfica and Lyon forced the Gunners to the negotiation table but it seems that would be enough to secure the signing of the player with Champions League campaigners Lyon primed to seal his transfer.

Marcos Rojo

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has agreed to leave the club this month and this is subject to approval from the Premier League club.

TNT Sports said that the Argentine international has reached an agreement with Estudiantes in his native Argentina and that Manchester United will have to approve the transfer before the versatile defender can leave the Old Trafford outfit.

Marcus Rojo is a utility player that functions well as a left-back or as a central midfielder and he earns £130,000 on a weekly basis at Old Trafford.

The Argentine international can play as a centre-back, a left-wing-back and a left-back.

Marcos Rojo has made just five appearances for Manchester United this season.

His playing time has been affected by injuries and the good form of those at left-back and central defence.

Brandon Williams is the new kid on the block playing as a left-back after the Academy graduate broke into the first team this season.

Ashley Young was also a left-back option before the player left to join Inter Milan this month.

Luke Shaw has been the first choice recipient of that position for years.

Victor Lindelof is also the preferred centre-back pairing with Harry Maguire ahead of Rojo.

Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish has made a decision on his immediate future at Villa Park amidst the transfer rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United who are presently short of midfield options as a result of the ankle and knee injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay respectively.

According to the Manchester Evening News (MEN) via one of its publications, Jack Grealish has told Manchester United that he wants to see out this season at Aston Villa as the former European champions try to stay in the Premier League after just one season back amongst the big boys.

Jack Grealish and Aston Villa recorded a big win on Tuesday night after they came from a goal down to beat in-form Watford 2-1 courtesy the goals from Douglas Luiz and Tyrone Mings.

Troy Deeney had given Watford a first-half lead before two second-half goals from Villa turned the game on its head including a late winner.

The win moved Aston Villa out of the relegation zone and two points ahead of Bournemouth who occupy the last relegation spot on the league log.

Jack Grealish is not the only midfielder linked with Manchester United since the start of this month.

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United were granted favor in their quest to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes after his team was knocked out of the Portuguese League Cup by Sporting Braga.

Sporting Lisbon and hosts Sporting Braga met in the first semi-final of the Portuguese League Cup this season and it ended in a 2-1 loss for Bruno Fernandes and his teammates.

A potential move to Manchester United transfer might have been delayed as the player would want to play the final of the competition billed for this weekend.

While Sporting Lisbon were trailing 1-0 in the first half, Bruno produced a quick-thinking freekick for the equalizer from French defender Jeremy Mathieu shortly after he was fouled in the opposition half.

Sporting Lisbon ended that game with three players sent off, while their opponents Sporting Braga had one player sent off in what was a feisty game.

The winner of the second semi-final match between Vitoria Setubal and FC Porto on Wednesday night will face Sporting Braga in the final scheduled for this weekend.

For Bruno Fernandes, a transfer to Manchester United is still far from being completed as Sporting Lisbon and the Red Devils are yet to reach an agreement for his transfer.
