Chelsea were dealt a major injury blow on a bad Champions League night following the injury to in-form Mason Mount in their game with Spanish La Liga club Valencia.
The two teams met in a Group H Champions League clash which ended in a 1-0 defeat at home in a game that marked their return to the big league after a one-year absence.
Chelsea missed the competition last season as they were in the Europa League which they eventually won by beating London rivals Arsenal.
The Blues suffered their first major blow of the night when the aforementioned Mason Mount had to leave the Champions League game with Valencia because of an ankle injury.
Mason Mount has been in very good form for Chelsea in his first season with the first team after scoring three goals in the five Premier League games played this season.
The second blow of the night came in the 74th minute when Valencia took the lead through Spanish international striker Rodrigo Moreno off an assist from club skipper Dani Parejo.
The final major blow of the night came with three minute left to play when Chelsea were awarded a penalty via the help of VAR.
Ross Barkley missed the resulting penalty to condemn Chelsea to defeat.
