Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is reportedly in talks with one of the big clubs on the Major League Soccer (MLS) scene.

According to the Washington Post, the player’s agent Ergut Sogut was in the United States capital for a meeting with MLS club D.C. United who are interested in signing Mesut Ozil in January.

Ergut Sogut met with D.C. United executives Jason Levien and Sam Porter to talk about the possibility of a deal for German World Cup winner Ozil.

Mesut Ozil is being targeted by D.C. United as a possible replacement for Wayne Rooney who will leave the club next year January after two years.

England’s all-time record goalscorer Rooney has already signed a contract at English Championship club Derby County.

He has signed an 18-month deal to become a player-manager at the club but he won’t join them until his contract in the MLS has expired.

Mesut Ozil is seen as a potential replacement for Rooney.

The German has endured a difficult time at Arsenal in the past weeks after he was attacked by gun-wielding criminals.

Mesut Ozil missed the opening Premier League game of this season because of security concerns.

The German is expected to return to action this weekend.
