West London giants Chelsea have confirmed that defender David Luiz has left the club for Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Chelsea made the confirmation via an official statement released via their official Twitter page on Thursday evening.
David Luiz has signed for Arsenal after he dropped to fourth in the centre back pecking order at Chelsea with new manager Frank Lampard in charge of the team.
Arsenal paid £8m for his transfer and he has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium until the end of the 2020/21 season.
The Gunners were in the market for a new central defender and David Luiz represents a good option for the North London giants who missed out on younger defensive targets like RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and Juventus star Daniele Rugani.
David Luiz fell behind the trio of Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the centre back pecking order at Stamford Bridge and that prompted his move to Arsenal.
The 32-year-old spent seven seasons at Chelsea over two spells.
He spent two years at French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in between the two spells.
David Luiz is the sixth summer signing at his new club.
