Arsenal manager Unai Emery has played down widespread rumours linking Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho with a move to the club between now and the rest of the transfer window.

Unai Emery spoke about those transfer rumours during his post-match press conference shortly after the preseason club friendly between Arsenal and Barcelona.

Barcelona and Arsenal met during the annual Joan Gamper Trophy on Sunday night.

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Barcelona who won the trophy again after coming from behind to score two second half goals.

After the game, Spanish tactician Unai Emery praised the quality of Philippe Coutinho whom he described as a special player before adding that the Brazilian playmaker has never been in their discussion at Arsenal.

According to the Arsenal manager, the Gunners are not interested in the former Liverpool player.

Spanish champions Barcelona are open to the idea of selling him or loaning him for the new season after the Brazilian failed to live up to his £142m price tag.

He joined Barcelona during the winter transfer window in 2018 from reigning European champions Liverpool.

During his time at Barcelona till date, Philippe Coutinho has won two Spanish La Liga titles as well as one Spanish Copa Del Rey title.
