Harry Maguire

New Manchester United signing Harry Maguire has paid tribute to the club after his transfer was confirmed earlier on Monday.

In his first interview as a Manchester United player, the England international centre back expressed his delight at his transfer.

The former Hull City and Sheffield United defender went on to describe Manchester United as a big club before adding that he can’t wait to get started for his new team.

Harry Maguire became the most expensive defender in the history of football as a result of the transfer from Leicester City to Manchester United.

Leicester City will receive a world-record fee of £80m plus add-ons of £5m thus making it a total of £85m.

The previous record for the most expensive defender was held by Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk.

The Dutchman held the record for 18 months.

Liverpool paid £75m to secure his transfer from Southampton at the start of 2018.

Harry Maguire has beaten his record to take that throne from him after he penned a six-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams.

His Manchester United contract will expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 26-year-old was a Leicester City for just two seasons following his £17m move from Hull City in 2017.
