The current record stands at the £75m paid for the signing of Virgil Van Dijk.
The Dutch international skipper joined Liverpool from fellow Premier League outfit Southampton at the start of last year for that amount.
Since his transfer, Virgil Van Dijk has been immense for Liverpool at the back and this was evident last season when they finished the Premier League season with the best defensive record.
Van Dijk was also a key player for Liverpool who finished the season as European champions and it was made possible via the 2-0 win over Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
