Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the imminent transfer of Nicolas Pepe from French Ligue 1 club Lille.

The Gabonese international star spoke about Pepe shortly after the club friendly clash between Angers and Arsenal.

Angers and Arsenal played 1-1 at the end of regulation time before the Gunners triumphed 4-3 on penalties.

After the game, Aubameyang described Pepe as a great player before adding that Arsenal should sign him up as soon as possible.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arsenal will play their final preseason game against Spanish La Liga club Barcelona next week.

Nicolas Pepe is expected to join Arsenal in the coming hours.

The 24-year-old is expected to break the record of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he completes his transfer to North London.

Arsenal paid £56m when they signed the aforementioned Aubameyang from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund at the start of last year.

The Gunners will pay €80m (£72m) for Pepe.

Arsenal won the race to sign Nicolas Pepe ahead of other interested clubs like Napoli, Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Liverpool, Inter Milan and Manchester United.

Nicolas Pepe scored 23 goals in all competitions for Lille last season including 22 goals in the league.

He has spent two seasons at Lille since joining from fellow French Ligue 1 club Angers.
