Premier League club Watford are reportedly in talks to sign highly rated Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr.

According to Sky Sports, the Hornets are hopeful of signing the Arsenal target before the Premier League transfer window closes.

Watford have less than three weeks to get the deal over the line with the transfer window set to be shut on August 8.

Rennes are holding out for £27m for Sarr but Watford are ready to offer £20m for him.

The two clubs are still £7m apart in their valuation for the player.

His transfer would be record-breaking for Watford whose current record is the £18m paid for Andre Gray.

The striker was signed from fellow Premier League club Burnley at the start of the 2017/18 season.

Apart from Ismaila Sarr, Watford also retain an interest in £25m-rated winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Ismaila Sarr has been busy this summer at the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

He was part of the Senegal squad that reached the final of the tournament before they were beaten 1-0 by Tunisia.

Ismaila Sarr was linked with the Gunners earlier this year but the North Londoners have moved their attention to Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

Arsenal want to sign a winger this summer ahead of the new season billed to start next month.
