Barcelona Turn Down Chance To Sign Man Utd Target

Danny Rose

Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona have rejected the opportunity to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose this summer.

This is according to the latest reports coming out of the media in Spain.

Danny Rose was offered to Barcelona in their quest to sign a left-back this summer thereby providing competition for first choice Jordi Alba.

Barcelona left-back Alba has not been challenged in that position since Lucas Digne left the club for Premier League side Everton last summer.

The specific report from popular Spanish media outlet SPORT revealed that Danny Rose offered himself to Barcelona but the Catalans passed up the opportunity to sign him.

Recent reports claimed that the Manchester United target is valued at £20m by Tottenham Hotspur.

Danny Rose had earlier been placed on the transfer market at Spurs and manager Mauricio Pochettino tries to shake things up.

The England international left-back was part of the Spurs team that lost their first ever Champions League final.

Danny Rose and Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-0 via the goals from Mohamed Salah (penalty) and Divock Origi who had come on in the second half as a replacement for Roberto Firmino.

He is fed up with life at Parc des Princes after two years at the club.

His preference is to return to Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona but arch rivals Real Madrid are also interested in a move for him.

Messi Blamed For Coutinho’s Exit At Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona legend Rivaldo has blamed star player Lionel Messi for the exit of former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho from the club earlier this week, Goal reports.

According to him, Coutinho failed to thrive at Barcelona mainly due to the dynamics at the Spanish La Liga club.

Rivaldo pointed out that Philippe Coutinho was unable to survive at a Barcelona squad whose main man is Lionel Messi.

It is difficult to shine in a team that has Messi, as he takes the shine and responsibility at the club.

Philippe Coutinho became the most expensive Barcelona signing in January 2018 after the Catalans agreed to a £142m deal for him.

The Brazilian international spent 18 months at the Nou Camp but failed to make the necessary impact.

He has left the club for German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on loan for this season.

The Bavarian giants have paid €8.5m for the season-long loan deal which could be turned into a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich have the option to sign him permanently for €120m.

Coutinho would be hoping to revive his career at Bayern Munich after the disappointments from his time with Spanish champions Barcelona.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has come under serious scrutiny following his comment on the much talked about Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Technology.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was heavily criticized by ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan in his column with The Sun.

According to Simon Jordan, Guardiola complains about VAR only when it doesn’t favor his team.

Pep Guardiola complained about VAR at the weekend in his post-match press conference after the Premier League home game with Tottenham Hotspur.

Guardiola and Manchester City were infuriated after VAR chalked off the late goal from substitute Gabriel Jesus for handball.

The goal would have given Manchester City a 3-2 win over Spurs but the decision meant that the two teams shared a four-goal salvo.

After the game, Pep Guardiola described the use of VAR to disallow the goal as tough before pointing out that the same situation repeated itself against the same opponent in the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season.

Manchester City hosted Spurs in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal tie and they had a last-minute strike from Raheem Sterling chalked off by VAR for offside.
