Premier League giants Manchester United are the subject of mockery amongst officials of major European clubs following their move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.
According to journalist Duncan Castles via Transfer Window Podcast, officials of clubs with the same stature as Manchester United have laughed at the Red Devils over their move for England international star Maguire.
He also pointed out that the Leicester City player’s lack of pace is common knowledge amongst the clubs and that the centre back was targeted by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola when the two clubs met last season.
Guardiola and Manchester City were also interested in him before the Citizens dropped out of the race to sign him because of the £90m valuation from Leicester City.
Manchester City were ready to spend as much as £60m to £65m for him.
Latest reports revealed that Manchester United have agreed on a world-record transfer fee for him.
It was revealed that the Red Devils will pay £80m for him thus making him the most expensive defender in the history of world football ahead of current recipient Virgil Van Dijk.
The Dutch international centre back signed for Liverpool for £75m at the start of last year.
