Arsenal have reportedly matched the offer made by North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Saint Etienne defender William Saliba.
This is according to French media outlet RMC Sport which claimed that the Gunners have made an offer of €30m for the young French defender.
The Gunners had earlier made a bid of €30m including add-ons and bonuses before their offer was bettered by Spurs who made an offer of the same amount without add-ons and bonuses.
William Saliba is one of the most exciting young players in French football and the Gunners have to contend with their North London rivals for him.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season during the last French Ligue 1 campaign.
He made 16 league appearances for Saint Etienne last season helping the club seal a spot in the UEFA Europa League next season.
Saint Etienne want him to return to the club on a season-long deal as part of the conditions for a transfer.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has a serious headache on how to solve his team’s defensive issues and William Saliba could be the man to solve it in the long run.
North London giants Arsenal conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last season and 70 goals overall.
