Europa League finalists Arsenal are in pole position to sign Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina ahead of other interested clubs like Manchester United and Leicester City.

This is according to the publication from Football London which revealed that the Gunners might be closing in on a new midfield signing this summer.

Mario Lemina is said to be surplus to requirements at Southampton after his unsuccessful spell on the South Coast.

The 25-year-old was at Italian Serie A champions Juventus before joining Southampton in 2017.

The Saints paid £18m to secure his transfer from the Italian club two years ago.

Arsenal are in need of a new midfielder this summer and Gabonese international Lemina could be the man for that job.

The Gunners want to sign a midfield replacement for Aaron Ramsey who has gone to Juventus, which is coincidentally the former club of the aforementioned Lemina.

Ramsey ended his decade-long stay at Arsenal at the end of last month upon the expiration of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The 28-year-old had been at the Emirates Stadium since he was a teenager.

Mario Lemina could be the direct replacement for him though the Saints would demand almost all of the transfer fee spent on the player in 2017.
