Premier League giants Arsenal have won the race to sign Saint Etienne defender William Saliba this summer according to the latest reports coming out of the French media.

This is according to the publication from popular French news outlet Canal+ which revealed that the Gunners will sign William Saliba for €25m in addition to bonuses.

It was also revealed that the young defender will be loaned back to Saint Etienne for the 2019/20 season.

Apart from Arsenal, Premier League champions Manchester City and Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in the player.

William Saliba has enjoyed a meteoric rise after his breakthrough season in the last campaign.

The 18-year-old was in good form for French Ligue 1 club Saint Etienne last season.

William Saliba was a prominent figure for a Saint Etienne side that narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League for next season after finishing in fourth position at the end of the 2018/19 season.

He made 16 appearances for Saint Etienne in the league.

The young French centre back is yet to feature for the senior France national team.

William Saliba has played for the French u-16, u-17 and the u-19 team.

He also represented the u-20 French team at the u-20 World Cup tournament in Poland earlier this year.
