Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Leandro Trossard from Genk.

The 24-year-old has signed a long-term contract to become the first major signing of the summer for the Seagulls.

Brighton have signed him in a club-record deal worth £18m.

The Seagulls saw off the challenge of newly promoted Premier League club Aston Villa to sign the Belgian attacker.

Aston Villa sealed promotion to the Premier League ahead of the new season scheduled for August after beating Derby County in the final of the English Championship playoffs.

Leandro Trossard was also a transfer target for North London giants Arsenal earlier this year.

The Gunners were strongly linked with the winger during the winter transfer window in January but they were unable to get a deal over the line.

Arsenal were only interested in a loan deal for him which was opposed by his club Genk.

The Gunners eventually settled for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez who spent the second half of last season at the Emirates Stadium.

Denis Suarez was unable to make the desired impact for Arsenal who missed out on Champions League football at the end of the season.

Brighton finished in 17th spot last season and Graham Potter has been named as the new manager following the sacking of Chris Hughton last month.
