Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are said to be closing in on the transfer of highly-rated Benfica forward Joao Felix.

This is according to the publication from the London Evening Standard which claimed that the Spanish capital club will sign the 19-year-old in the coming days.

Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are close to completing a €120m (£106.7m) deal for Joao Felix and the said transfer would make him the fifth most expensive player in world football.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) duo of Neymar Jnr and Kylian Mbappe, as well as the Barcelona duo of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, occupy the first four spots as far as the most expensive players are concerned.

Joao Felix was previously a Liverpool target and earlier reports claimed that the Reds made a big offer for the recently capped Portuguese international player but their offer was thrown out by Benfica.

The Champions League holders made a £61m bid for Joao Felix towards the end of last year and it was rejected as pointed out earlier.

Joao Felix had a breakthrough season for Benfica whom he helped to reclaim the league title at the expense of rivals and the immediate past champions FC Porto.
