North London giants Arsenal are reportedly planning a move for Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso during this summer’s transfer window.

According to Spanish media Marca, the Gunners are eyeing a move for the centre back as they try to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League for next season partly due to an ineffective defence and the North Londoners are keen to rectify that problem.

Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League after they could only finish in fifth place which is outside the mandatory first four spots required for Europe’s premier club competition.

The Gunners also fluffed the opportunity to qualify via the Europa League route after they were beaten by London rivals Arsenal via a 4-1 defeat.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery definitely knows a lot about Real Madrid trainee Mario Hermoso during his time in Spanish football.

The 23-year-old has a €40m buyout clause for the other clubs while Real Madrid can activate his contract for just €15m this summer.

Mario Hermoso was one of the best young centre backs during the just concluded Spanish La Liga season.

He scored three goals in 32 games on the Spanish La Liga season in addition to three appearances in the Spanish Copa Del Rey.
