Premier League champions Manchester City have stepped up their interest in Portuguese teen sensation Joao Felix who plays for Benfica FC of Portugal.

Joao Felix was in superb form for Benfica as they reclaimed the Portuguese Super League title from fierce rivals FC Porto on the final day of the league season.

The 19-year-old has a release clause of £105m in his Benfica contract and he has been attracting the interest of a lot of major clubs on the European football stage including Manchester City who just completed an unprecedented domestic treble.

Manchester City won the Premier League title, the Carabao Cup as well as the FA Cup title to become the first club to win all the three domestic titles.

Despite their dominance in English football during the just concluded season, Manchester City are keen to bolster their squad with the signing of Joao Felix.

According to The Sun, Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano met with the Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and the player’s agent Jorge Mendes yesterday to discuss the potential transfer of the young attacker.

Joao Felix could replace Manchester City winger Leroy Sane who’s attracting serious interest from German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich this summer.

Sane is said to be open to the idea of returning to Germany despite the fact that he has two years left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Apart from Manchester City, Manchester United are also in the running to sign Joao Felix.
